ABOUT
Nat Urazmetova is a visual artist, story-teller, contemporary music researcher, multi-genre DJ, writer and poet, who worked as a journalist, PR manager and event promoter across many industries - mostly in music, art and fashion. Born in 1984 in Ufa, former USSR. Works and lives in London, UK.
Nat is interested in investigating the slippage between fiction and reality, and in experimenting with the possibilities of juxtaposing language/text and the aural, immaterial, to the visual and the physical – to uncover the dynamic, sometimes dissonant and disturbing, zones of in-betweenness impregnated with meaning and emotion. How speculative scenarios, metaphors and local mythologies, natural phenomena and geology as they are partially determined by geopolitics can be synthesised together through art in order to affect thinking and make imagining the other, forward-oriented, narratives possible?
Nat performed and presented her live visual shows at the venues & festivals: The Bowery NYC; Roundhouse, Earth, Fold, Islington Assembly Hall, Low Profile Studios, Village Underground, Corsica Studios & Sinfonia Smith Square in London; Musikinstrumenten Museum & Volksbühne in Berlin; Modern Art Oxford; Centre for Contemporary Arts Glasgow; LWL-Museum für Kunst und Kultur Münster; and at Glastonbury, Urbanscapes Malaysia, iTunes and European Media Art Festival Germany.
Nat exhibited internationally at TBA21-Academy, Garage Museum of Contemporary Art, The Calvert Gallery, London City Hall, Southwark Park Galleries, the Royal Geographical Society, Athens Photo Festival, NIDA International Photography Symposium Lithuania, Loosen Art Rome, Copenhagen Photo Festival, Kolga Photo Tbilisi, Bar-Tur Photography Award, Fotofest Houston, Fotofreo, Neu/Now, Photomonth, GetxoPhoto Spain, and published a photography book ‘The Persimmon’s Fruit’ (2016).
Nat is a graduate of Goldsmiths College (MA in Digital Media - with distinction, 2010), London College of Communication, University of the Arts (BA in Photography, 2009), the National Research University Higher School of Economics (specialist in International Law - with distinction, 2006).
